Dental Implants

For most people, achieving a healthy, beautiful smile is the reason for choosing to receive orthodontic care. If you`re self-conscious about your smile, having braces will greatly improve the way you look and feel.

Reasons for undergoing orthodontic treatment:
a)    Your child has:

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • A finger sucking or other oral habit

b)    You or your child has

  • Difficulty in chewing or biting
  • Mouth breathing
  • Crowding, misplaced, protruding, or blocked-out teeth
  • Jaws that shift, make sounds, protrude or retrude
  • Speech difficulty
  • Problems resulting from biting into a cheek or the palate (roof of the mouth)
  • Teeth that meet in an abnormal way or don´t meet at all
  • A facial imbalance or asymmetry
  • Grinding or clenching of teeth.

How Orthodontic Treatment Works:

Orthodontic appliances are made of metal, ceramic, or plasctic. They may be removable or they may be bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to the proper postion. You can now choose from brackets that are clear or metallic, and in some cases, the color of your appliance. Wires are far less noticeable, and the latest materials are designed to move teeth faster with more comfort. Today, any age is a great age to wear braces.

An orthodontic appliance is prescribed based on a patients´s age and his or her teeth and jaw alignment needs. There is a wide range of available orthodontic appliances. Each appliance has several techniques for treatment use. While dental braces are the most universally known, only your Orthodontist can prescribe the appliance and restorative technique that is right you.

Types of braces:

Braces can be prescribed for teens, adults, and children who have permanent teeth. They may be used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances prescribed to widen the palate or jaws or to shape the teeth and jaws. The average treatment  time for braces is just over two years, but treatment time varies by the individual. There are two major types of braces: fixed and removable. If you are a candidate for braces, your Orthodontist will recommend the type best suited for you.

  • Traditional braces
  • Self-ligating braces
  • Ceramic braces

After reviewing your dental x-rays and performing a thorough exam of your teeth, gums, supporting bone structure and any pre-existing dental work, your Orthodontist will recommend a treatment plan and answer your questions.

Duration of Treatment:

Depending on several factors, including age, treatment method, and how minor or severe your case is, treatment time varies and can last between one and three years. A big factor to a successful treatment is you, the patient! The more involved and diligent you are, the quicker and more efficient your treatment will be. For children, receiving interceptive, or early treatment, it can also help provide a quicker treatment time later on in life. Before beggining your orthodontic care, your doctor will discuss all your options and provide an estimate for how long your full treatment may take. Please contact our practice to schedule an appointment and learn more about orthodontics and the treatments we provide.

A.    Whether you hope to correct a problematic bite or straighten your teeth for cosmetic reasons, Invisalign orthodontics may be an excellent choice to help you obtain a natural, comfortable smile. Here at The Dental Health Center we offer Invisalign services that are sure to fit your needs and lifestyle.

B.    One of the biggest concerns adults have when considering orthodontic work is the appearance of traditional metal braces and the long period of time over which the orthodontic work is done. Invisalign alleviates this concern by providing a metal-free, faster working alternative. At The Dental Health Center  our professionals are experienced in Invisalign orthodontics, and can help you take the next step toward achieving the smile of your dreams.

C.     You might consider Invisalign if you could benefit from traditional, metal braces, but have concerns about their appearence. Invisalign fixes many of the same dental problems as traditional metal braces, but is is virtually invisible to the naked eye and can be removed when needed (e.g., for eating or brushing and flossing teeth).

D.    Treatment consists of a series of custom-made alignment trays that move the teeth over time. First, you will meet our staff for a consultation and to create an initial treatment plan. We will take three-dimensional images of the entire jaw, allowing us to view different angles and foresee what the teeth and face might look like during and after treatment. Essentially, Invisalign technology allows us to see how the treatment will afect your facial aesthetics.

E.     After an initial plan is complete, a full set of custom alignment trays will be made. The total number of aligners needed varies from patient to patient, but 20-29 sets per arch is common. During the treatment process, you will have to change the trays every several weeks to fit your next tooth configuration. It may take weeks to get used to your Invisalign trays. Patients must wear them constantly, except when drinking or eating. Also, brushing and flossing between meals is imperative because food is easily trapped between the tray and teeth. However, with the proper discipline and commitment, Invisalign pays off in the end.
